Our commitment

TROOP is committed to making shoptroop.com usable by as many people as possible, whatever their abilities or the technology they use. We believe everyone should be able to browse, shop, and reach us with ease, and we're working to make that true across every part of our online store.

What we're doing

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard used widely across the web to define accessible content. To get there, we:

  • build our store on a Shopify theme designed with accessibility in mind, and keep it up to date;
  • write descriptive alternative text for product and editorial images;
  • check that text and buttons have enough color contrast to be read comfortably;
  • make sure the site can be navigated by keyboard alone, with visible focus indicators;
  • use clear headings, labels, and link text so screen readers can make sense of each page;
  • review new features, apps, and pop-ups for accessibility before they go live; and
  • test the site periodically with automated tools and manual checks.

Where we are today

shoptroop.com is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that most of the site meets the standard, but some parts may not yet. We're a small, new store and we're improving accessibility as an ongoing effort rather than a one-time project. Some content provided by third-party services (for example, payment, email sign-up, or embedded social media) may not be fully within our control, and we work with those providers where we can.

Tell us how we can do better

If you have trouble using any part of shoptroop.com, run into a barrier, or have a suggestion, we'd like to hear from you. Email us at hello@shoptroop.com and tell us which page you were on and what happened. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.

If you'd like to place an order and something on the site is standing in your way, email us and we'll gladly help you complete it another way.

Technical notes

shoptroop.com is built on Shopify and relies on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to work. It's designed to work with current versions of major browsers and with assistive technologies such as screen readers. Checkout is provided by Shopify, which maintains its own accessibility standards for that part of the experience.
